Even though we’re very excited about mooncakes, we have to admit that all the packaging can become too wasteful. If you’ve got too many mooncakes and mooncake boxes and tins, bring them to the following collection points. Don’t forget to clean them beforehand!

Greeners Action

For the 9th year, environmental organization Greeners Action will be organizing the “Mooncake Boxes Recycling Program 2021”. They have partnered with commercial shopping malls and set up recycling stations, where you can recycle clean mooncake boxes and packaging.

Sino Group

Sino Group is organising the Mooncake Box Recycling Campaign along with Kee Wah Bakery. Bring your cleaned metal mooncake tins to designated collection points to redeem a $20 voucher from Kee Wah Factory. All recycled tins will be donated to Christian Acton.

Deliveroo x The Loops

Deliveroo is partnering with The Loops to set up collection points at Mos Burgers and Deliveroo Editions to all types of mooncakes packaging, including plastic and paper bags, cooler bags, paper boxes as well as metal tins.

The Peninsula

Received a box of the prestigious Peninsula mooncakes? Recycle your box at The Peninsula, which will be upcycled into paper by local company Mil Mill. Drop off your boxes at The Peninsula Boutique & Café (The Peninsula Arcade, Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui) or The Peninsula Pop-up Boutique (1/F, Hysan Place, No.500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay).

Donate Your Spare Mooncakes

Food Grace

Food Grace has set up 33 collection points for you to drop off your spare mooncakes. They will distribute the mooncakes before the festival to make sure that everyone can enjoy them on Mid-Autumn!

Date: Now through September 20, 2021

Collection points: 33 locations across Hong Kong including The Center (99 Queen’s Road Central, Central), Infinitus Plaza (199 Des Voeux Rd Central, Sheung Wan), Fashion Walk (Great George St, Causeway Bay), Kornhill Plaza (2 Kornhill Rd, Quarry Bay), and more here

Food Angel

Partnering with Swire Group, Food Angel has set up collection points at 21 locations. Drop off your unopened, individually-wrapped mooncake for those in need.

Date: Now through September 29, 2021

Collection points: 21 locations across Hong Kong including New World Tower (16-18 Queen’s Road Central, Central), Pacific Place, and more here

Food-Co

If you have way more mooncakes than your stomach can handle, donate them to Food-Co, who will distribute them to those in-need.
