Far away from everyone else in the world, Sydney does its own thing. From coffee to man buns, here are a few of the city’s most noticeable quirks that might having you feel like a fish out of water.
1. Sydney is home to some of the best coffee in the world, but all the shops close at 4pm right as your afternoon slump sets in.
2. Everyone is outside jogging/biking/brunching in the park at 11am on weekdays.
3. People say things like “swimmers”, “lippy” “booger” and “footy”. It’s like a bunch of grown-ass adults communicating in baby talk.
4. There are SO MANY man buns. Is this a rite of passage?
5. And cronuts. You cannot escape those flaky pastries. Nor can you eat them gracefully.
6. Ordering beer is really complicated. Choose between pints, handles, paddles, schooners and ponies.
7. Despite drinking beer and eating cronuts all the time, everyone is ridiculously fit.
8. People keep saying it’s your turn to shout. But you have no idea what they’re on about!
