The MTR is expanding. February 14 sees the opening of two brand new stations and one extension to an existing station — Hin Keng, Kai Tak and Diamond Hill, respectively. The three stations shorten the journey from Tai Wai to Diamond Hill, and mark the first phase of the Tuen Ma Line, a new MTR line that will eventually connect the West Rail and Ma On Shan Lines. Trains are scheduled to run every three and a half minutes.
Another section of the Tuen Ma Line running from Kai Tak to Hung Hom is expected to open at the end of the year. The Tuen Ma Line is part of the Shatin to Central link project, which has come under fire over past years due to various engineering problems.
