The Redress Design Award is back for its 11th year! The world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, the Redress Design Award is organized by Hong Kong NGO Redress (see our interview with founder Christina Dean here) and sponsored by Create Hong Kong.
If you are an emerging designer with less than four years of experience, and have a passion for sustainable design, the award’s designed for you. Online application is open until March 15, 2021, and the brief is to design three ready-to-wear outfit with sustainable design strategies such as making use of textile waste and upcycling.
The competition aims to educate emerging fashion designers about sustainable design concepts. Thirty semi-finalists will be announced on April 22, and all will be able to participate in discussions and educational activities. All semi-finalists will win educational prizes, including access to the Redress Design Award Alumni Network.
The ten finalists will then be asked to present a complete sustainable fashion collection, and be invited to showcase their collection in Hong Kong at the grand final fashion show in September.
The first prize is particularly exciting this year, with the final winner be awarded the opportunity to join the Timberland team to collaborate on a design project, on top of prizes such as a HK$50,000 development fund.
Throughout its past ten years, the award has delivered sustainable design content to more than 50,000 individuals and provided educational support to designers from more than 55 countries.
