Big changes are coming people. Our beloved national treasure, the Star Ferry has been taking some big budget losses over the past few years. The loss kept on snowballing from more than $16 million HKD in 2020 to a whopping $37 million HKD last year. To recover, the Chief Executive-in-Council has approved the Star Ferry fare increase.

From April 3, the fares of the two ferry routes will increase to $2.3 HKD per trip. On weekdays, adults can expect to pay $5 and $6.5 for the weekends and public holidays. On top of that, the Star Ferry fare increase also affects the elderly. There will be no more elderly free rides, instead, they will have to pay a $2 concessionary fare.
