What’s it called: Black Rose Barbershop

What’s it all about?: From some of Hong Kong’s biggest names in the hair and grooming industry comes Causeway Bay’s newest barber shop. This unlikely group of young, handsome men have gained a rather humble following since they opened their first store in Tsim Sha Tsui in 2018. Before then, the owners were in the industry of their own accord; Thug Don had the very hip Thug Barber (offering cut-throat shaves) accessible via a fireman’s lift down an alleyway in Kwun Tong, while Gary Leung was selling all the goods in men’s grooming at Cheung Leung Kee, also in Kwun Tong.

Why is it important? Awareness surrounding mental health in salons and barbershops is starting to make waves around the world. In fact, some are even saying barbers have become the latest safe space for men.

Great for: Grabbing your regular tidy-up in the hands of barbers who have experience cutting hair in Hong Kong and down under in Australia. Given Gary’s connections to grooming products, it makes for a great spot to top up the cosmetics cabinet. A hair cut and eyebrow shape up starts at $320.

Where is it?: 35 Yiu Wah Street, Causeway Bay, facebook.com/blackrosebarbershophk
