This August, Sasa celebrated its 40th anniversary. Venture into one of Hong Kong’s many shopping neighborhoods and you’ll be sure to find at least one outlet by the beauty retail giant, often filled with crowds of eager tourist shoppers. But before the beauty giant became a household name, it was a humble 40sqm shop in the basement of a Causeway Bay mall. Eleanor and Simon Kwok — then a saleswoman and parking meter repairman with no experience as entrepreneurs — bought the shop, and the rest is history. Now, Sasa has 270 stores throughout Hong Kong, Macau, China, Singapore and Malaysia, including a massive flagship space and an online arm.
