There is a lot of talk about going plastic-free in Hong Kong recently, and it just became much easier to walk the walk. In a month-long campaign launched by local environmental start-up BottLess and NWS Holdings – parent company to the Cheung Chau ferries – you can now go plastic-free on Cheung Chau during weekends in August.
With $20 deposit, you can borrow a set of reusable “FoldaBOWL” food containers and cutlery. Sets returned on the same day will be cleaned by a neighbourhood dishwashing company and reused. In support of the campaign, 20 Cheung Chau eateries are also offering discounts to diners who purchase with a FoldaBOWL.
A similar scheme will be present at the Food Expo 2018, and the city is seeing more and more environmental movements such as water bottle rentals or No Straw Campaign.
