An elevator convo with Coco Chan and Valerie Ho of OMSA. See here for more from our Next Up series.
What do you do?
(Valerie) I am the co-founder of OMSA (“Ohm for the Spiritually Awakened”), an e-commerce and lifestyle portal for those seeking a deeper awakening through spirituality and introspection.
(Coco) OMSA is my latest business venture with my business partner, Valerie. I am the co-founder and chief magic maker (more on that in a bit!)
How does your business work?
OMSA provides those we serve with agency to bring clarity and calm in their realm of control and to discover balance on one’s own terms.
The OMSA platform is primarily built on three pillars, first being an e-commerce and lifestyle platform of tools to catalyze one’s spiritual journey, which was launched in mid-July. We supply hand-selected, quality-vetted crystals, globally sourced herbs, oracle and angel cards, spiritual clearing candles, essential oils and more.
Upcoming, we are building an online community with tips on self-care and support, along with exclusive access to connect to our tried and tested healers and practitioners locally, regionally and globally.
Finally, in the near future, we intend to launch an educational hub available both on-and-off-line to access curated content aimed at making all new age “woo-y” concepts more inviting. This includes e-courses, discussion forums, videos specially created for OMSA, and live events to grow and connect our community.
How did your business get started?
Coco and I met serendipitously in 2018 at an energy healing masterclass. We stayed in touch and through our various lunch and coffee dates, we realized that we both share a dream to source quality spirituality and wellness products globally and bring them to Asia. In our own search for reliable, accessible tools as we grew in our spiritual journey, we found there was a gap in the market that needed to be filled. As we forecast a rise in those embarking on personalized wellness journeys globally, we believe this will inevitably lead to a rise in spiritual growth as well.
Who are your clients?
Anyone and everyone looking to further their wellness journey, elevate their self-care routine, and connect more deeply with themselves. OMSA is a platform to serve those who want to raise the vibration with more self-care, gratitude, empathy and love.
What’s a day in your working life like?
(Valerie) extremely varied! I usually start my day at 7:30am after snoozing a few times. I don’t leave my bed until I have written down my automatic writing exercise in affirmations, a recent habit that has totally transformed my negative self-doubt thoughts. I usually sit down for a full nutritious breakfast, and take my time catching up on social media/industry news, look over my to-do list and mentally time-budget my day before I leaving the house. (Truth be told, I’m happiest at home!) I handle OMSA’s inventory and orders, so I pack and energetically “cleanse” each order for delivery and hand them over to the courier myself. Once I am out and about, the day is non-stop: scheduled calls, partnership meetings, errands at multiple locations, and juggling various tasks and email responses. Coco and I touch base daily, but we also work very independently and trust each other completely on our respective areas of expertise – she’s a total marketing and PR whiz! Despite a varied and fast-paced daily routine, I always make sure I have some playtime – whether that is catching up with a friend, booking myself into a group exercise class, or simply getting my 10,000 steps in. I usually am in bed by 9pm, but still tethered to my phone until about 10:30pm before I place all electronics outside of my bedroom and complete my day with a sleep meditation.
(Coco) No two days are the same! I usually wake up pretty early, around 6:30am. I have a lot of energy and creativity in the morning, so I usually start the day responding to emails and creating *magical* content for our OMSA community – talk about getting a head start! Usually by then, my husband is up and we’ll have a healthy breakfast together and discuss our schedule for the day. Post breakfast, I have a bit of me time, where I practice my daily meditations, infusing essential oils and energy healing when I feel inspired and jotting down my thoughts in my daily journal. About once or twice a week, I have private client consultations, as I am also a life coach and a certified aromatherapist. By mid morning, I am usually ready to leave the house – I either meet up or have a call with Valerie, and go about my day with scheduled calls, vendor appointments, and industry contact meetups. I tend to pack my schedule during the weekday, so I can be fully offline on the weekend to enjoy family time. Usually, my day ends around 6pm when I come home for a home-cooked meal. Evenings are spent with my husband and baby and then catching up on spiritual news globally and jotting down ideas that OMSA can activate in Hong Kong. I have a firm no-phone policy by 9:30pm, which allows me to fully relax with no distractions!
Where do you see your business in the future?
We envision OMSA to be the leading wellness & spirituality platform in Asia, building our lifestyle brand both online and offline with e-commerce, original content, and a network of global spiritual leaders and industry shakers. We hope to inspire a world of OMSA, where everyone is seeking to align with their best self, in an empowered, inclusive and shared manner.
