An elevator convo with Alex Croft, a Hong Kong mural artist and founder of ANB Art Limited, a professional painting company.

What do you do?

I am the Director of ANB ART.

How does your business work?

Clients normally have a design idea or feeling and direction of what they want and we try to match as close as possible to that vision they have using a range of different Italian plaster and paint products.

How did you get into your line of work?

As a Hong Kong artist (with murals including the G.O.D wall mural and Winerack in Sai Kung), I’ve had a few years of experience in interiors painting and mural painting works.

Who are your clients?

For my mural work, my biggest client so far is Hong Kong Jockey Club, whom I worked with on a project in Cheung Chau a few years ago. For the interior work, we work mainly with design companies and contractors or directly with the developer who then introduces us to the contractor.

What’s a day in your working life like?

On a good day, we get to the work site, set up the ladder and go for a tea break. Otherwise, on a normal day it’s very hot and sweaty and filthy at work when on site. On other days we are following up with clients for new projects later on in the year and planning our timetables.

Where do you see your business and art in the future?

Hopefully, we will be able to continue doing interior and exterior painting and decoration for new and old building projects in Hong Kong for many years to come as we pride ourselves on high quality finished work that will last a lifetime. Some special plaster can last up to 100 years if done correctly!
