Foodies unite! The Michelin Guide has announced its picks of Hong Kong and Macau’s best restaurants for 2020, so get ready to feast next year!
Fun Facts About the 2019 Hong Kong and Macau Michelin Guide
A total of 85 restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau were awarded stars this year: 10 were given three-star status, 19 got two stars, and 56 received one star each.
There were a total of 16 new additions to the 2020 guide, including Simon Rogan’s Roganic, Julien Royer’s Louise and David Thompson’s Aaharn.
Hotel restaurants came out on top this year. Hong Kong institutions Gaddi’s (at The Peninsula Hong Kong) and Petrus (at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong) were both awarded one star each. Both restaurants came under the direction of new chefs this year – Albin Gobil for Gaddi’s and Uwe Oppochensky for Petrus. In addition, both restaurants at The St. Regis Hong Kong gained one Michelin star each, which means Olivier Elzer, the brains behind French fine-dine L’Envol, now has a whopping 19 stars under his belt.
The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong retained its epic status of the most Michelin stars under one roof with three of its restaurants making the cut. Under the direction of Guillaume Gaillot, Caprice retained its three stars; Lung King Heen and Shushi Saito similarly retained three and two stars apiece.
