Coffee & Cocktails: This neighborhood gem holds court right outside the Sai Ying Pun MTR, making Winstons Coffee a convenient stop first thing in the morning or right after work.

Look & Feel: A little retro with black-and-white tiles and an old-school cinema marquee that reads “Coffee is the New Black.” Casual wooden countertops create a contemporary, inviting atmosphere — it’s snug in there but just big enough for a half-dozen couples or small groups.

On the Menu: It’s all about coffee, obviously, but there’s plenty more besides. Winstons Coffee rounds out the menu with homebrewed iced teas, cheesy toasties and creative baked goods — think nutty oat and flaxseed Power Bites and vibrant green matcha egg tarts. As for cocktails, we hear the espresso martinis (HK$100) are TDF and will be back to try ourselves.

Winstons Coffee Matcha Tarts
Our kind of “green” food at Winstons Coffee

Service: Quick, friendly and generous. On our first visit, the owner let us try a homemade cider just because — on our second visit, they took the time to cut up our little hot cross bun and smear on some butter for us.

Jeng: We’re all over the flat whites ($35) here. They’re creamy and aromatic, a worthy substitute for those with painful Australian coffee cravings. We also love the avocado grilled cheese ($70), a satisfying sandwich full of oozy mozzarella cheese, spinach and smashed avo on sour dough.

Not So Jeng: It’s hard to hold a conversation along the narrow counter space if you’re sitting in a group. As for the matcha tart ($20), we try it out of curiosity but are slightly let down by the runny filling and noncommittal matcha flavor. More matcha, we say!

Great For: Coffee catchups, healthy bites, dates, afternoon snack sessions, hardcore people-watching.

FYI: The takeout counter facing is perfect for on-the-run coffee and snacks, and the team sets up outdoor tables on sunny days.
