British Style: Forget Savile Row suits and posh twin-sets. Statement is the latest venture by Aqua Group, and this British-inspired restaurant is all geared upto make a stylish statement all its own in Tai Kwun.

Look & Feel: Surprisingly spacious, you could almost forget you’re at a Hong Kong restaurant. Inside, it’s all dark colors and sharp lines, giving a very chic, dark modernist feel.

Statement
Interiors at Statement.

On the Menu: It’s all very British, but you can forget about Beef Wellington and fish and chips. This is modern British cuisine at its best. Start with pan-fried scallops and beef tartare, then move onto bigger mains made with ingredients imported directly from Britain. The slow-cooked Gressingham duck with plum sauce and salt-baked carrot is a winner.

Jeng: There is so much space it’s almost shocking (but in a good way). Grub’s good, too.

Not So Jeng: Depending on the crowd, the restaurant can sometimes feel a little too scene-y or soulless.

Great For: Business dinners, celebratory occasions, and maybe the occasional date night.

FYI: There are two terraces here. One is Statement’s outdoor smoking terrace; the other is part of The Dispensary – the adjacent bar which functions as a drinking space for diners. The list of British and Chinese-themed cocktail has something for everyone — we loved The Crown.
