Thai Hang Out: After all these years, the dining enclave in and around Ship Street is still going strong. Enter Ruam, a stylish bar and restaurant offering casual Thai bites and drinks, complete with a breezy alfresco space. It’s named for the Thai word meaning “to gather.”

Look & Feel: A welcoming, unpretentious spot with inviting rattan and wooden furniture, with plenty of greenery lining the spacious terrace.

RUAM

On the Menu: Find much-loved Thai favorites like classic pad see ew ($118), pad Thai ($148) and papaya salad with snake beans, dried shrimp, chilli and peanut ($118). There are also hearty curries that are great for sharing, like creamy coconut-based prawn curry with kaffir and peanut ($178), and hanger steak with roasted rice, herbs, shallot and chilli ($148). The menu boasts a “drinking snacks” section offering small bites like charred pork neck ($118), chicken thigh skewers with peanut sauce ($78) and fish cakes seasoned with red curry and kaffir ($88).

Great For: Foodies who are after good, honest Thai dishes with no tricks up their sleeves.

FYI: Brunch on weekends ($248) gets you five small bites and a main. Wash it down with Ruam’s signature ginger-spiked ice-blended beer cocktail.
