Putting Down Roots: ROOT is among the bevy of F&B offerings at recently opened lifestyle complex H Code in Central, offering up fine French fare created from organic, locally-sourced ingredients.

Look & Feel: Classy and calming, with plenty of wooden tones and shades of blue. Light pours in through the wide windows during the day. The skyscraper that houses the restaurant, H Code, is located on Pottinger Street and overlooks heritage center Tai Kwun.

On the Menu: ROOT’s creative dishes feature local, seasonal ingredients and are beautifully plated. Think cactus with caviar and fermented miso onion or cuttlefish tagliatelle with squid ink mayonnaise. The lunch menu is two or three courses at $268 or $338, while the degustation menu is $1,280 for six courses or $1,680 for eight.

Meet the Chef: Co-owner and chef de cuisine Vito Chan is trained in classical French cuisine and honed his skills at Amber and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon.

Great For: Try the degustation menu for a leisurely meal and plenty of Insta-worthy dishes.

FYI: ROOT limits its food wastage to just 10 per cent — how’s that for sustainable?
