Hanging the Moon: Craft beer fans are sure to be familiar with local family-run microbrewery Moonzen. Well, Moonkok is the label’s first taproom — a modest space full of retro pizazz that serves up craft brews and bar bites.
Look & Feel: Designed by Heed Studio, the 300sqft bar blends the motifs of traditional Chinese temples and teahouses with modern hipster flair. Comprising an open counter area, a long wooden center table, and a number of cosy booths, the bar is filled with plenty of red and green, as well as local touches such as the original tiled floor and paintings by Hong Kong artists on the walls.
On the Menu: The label’s nine core beers are available on tap, of course, as well as three guest labels. The bar snacks are inspired by Cantonese cuisine and designed to perfectly match with the beer; think tacos filled with sweet and sour pork or deep fried garlic shrimp ($48 and $58) and pickled meats and vegetables, as well as Western classics like potato skins ($58) and buffalo wings ($48). Coffee, Chinese and Western teas, and soft drinks are available, too.
Meet the Restaurateurs: Husband-and-wife team Laszlo Raphael and Michelle Wong Raphael started out brewing beer at home as a hobby before founding Moonzen in 2013.
Great For: Craft beer aficionados; grabbing a bite and drink with a couple friends.
