Sharing is Caring: Following a successful first branch in Shanghai, Italian restaurant Mercato opened its Hong Kong outpost in June. Family-style dishes reign supreme here, so if you like trying a little bit of everything at the table, this is the place for you.

Look & Feel: Taking up a vast space at California Tower in Lan Kwai Fong, Mercato is decked out to resemble a Hong Kong market. The outdoor terrace is designed with a “farm chic” aesthetic in mind.

Meet the Chef: Mercato is helmed by chef and prolific restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who runs more than 30 concepts across the globe. These include his three-Michelin-starred namesake restaurant Jean Georges in New York City — which has a branch in Shanghai. This isn’t Vongerichten’s first time in Hong Kong — he ran a restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong in the 1990s.

On the Menu: Hearty Italian fare takes center stage. Expect to dig into chargrilled octopus, housemade ricotta with strawberry compote, whole roasted snapper and crispy beef short ribs. Mercato’s bar offers Italian-inspired cocktails — think Spicy Sicilian Margarita and the like.

Great For: Big group dinners.

FYI: Mercato is equipped with a wood-burning oven to make the pizzas in.
