Mum Knows Best: Meraki Hospitality Group has decided to shutter its Malaysian-inspired spot, Jalan, and instead open Mamma Always Said, a feel-good, homey eatery that blends into the social fabric of Peel Street. Doors are set to open later this month.

Look & Feel: It’s still TBD exactly what the concept will look like, but so far we’re seeing whitewashed walls and an indoor-outdoor concept that allows guests to freely move between the street and restaurant. No doubt the design has been developed to enhance the convivial nature of Peel Street.

On the Menu: Easy to eat grab-and-go options and comfort food to enjoy while sitting down. The all-day menu will feature home-baked goods and coffee fixes, as well as sandwiches and salads for the lunch crowd.

In the evenings though, happy hour will be the big event, featuring wines, beers, and signature cocktails like the house Negroni, and FOMO (Fruit of Mamma’s Orchard) Daiquiri. Soak up the booze with the dine-in menu of dishes made with local, seasonal ingredients. We’re betting on the Homemade X.O. Fried Chicken Wings ($85); King Prawns with chorizo and Manchego ($180); ever-changing tapas specials; and signature pastas.

Great For: Cheeky weeknight happy hours and casual dinners.

FYI: Mamma’s secret pasta sauce is available to buy so you can have a go at whipping up your own pasta dish at home.
