A Tropical Escape: Does the tiki concept in Hong Kong sound familiar? That’s because you probably remember Honi Honi (now closed), Maxence Traverse’s introduction of bringing Polynesia to the big city. The new restaurant, Maka Hiki, is a tribute to island experiences and good tiki vibes.

Look & Feel: Opening mid-December in Tai Hang, Maka Hiki reimagines its interiors with tropical wallpapers and hints of timber and bamboo. The outside terrace – a favorite feature that’s reminiscent of its predecessor – welcomes with cocktail hours and delicious all-day snacking.

On the Menu: There’s breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner menus. Chef Russell Doctrove takes the reigns of the ‘jungle kitchen’ serving creative staples. Signature dishes include the Hawaiian tuna poke, a refreshing dish, the grilled mahi mahi and 48-hour slow cooked beef rib, covered in a rich tamarind jaew BBQ sauce. For dessert, be sure to try the rice pudding, which is slow cooked in creamy coconut milk – it’s already making our mouths water in envy. Drinks are also the name of the game. If you miss tropical vacations, you’ve come to the right place. Imagine yourself at a beach in Bali with one of the rum concoctions – we’re looking at Dum Dum Give Me Rum Rum and the crowd favorite Maka Hiki Punch.

Great For: Cocktail hour and family brunches!

FYI: The nourishing bowls at breakfast are a healthier alternative to start your mornings. There’s everything from coconut porridge to tofu peanut bowls.
