Alleyway French: This two-story diner, holed up in a blink-and-you-miss alleyway in Sheung Wan, takes casual French cuisine to a whole new level.
Look & Feel: La Cantoche’s got some serious street cred; it’s a space where foosball machines and graffiti art belong.
Meet the Chef: Cool-as-ice chef David Sung, from France, is the man behind it all.
Service: Fast, casual, and if you’re lucky, chef David might even attend to your table himself.
On the Menu: Comfort French food is the name of the game. The menu here changes often, but you’ll always find perennial favorites like chicken cordon bleu and Rice Krispies lettuce wrap.
So Jeng: We have so far never had a fail at La Cantoche, whether we’re here for its lunch sets or scrumptious diners. The chicken cordon bleu ($188) with creamy morbier, is juicy and gooey, while the entrecote steak (aka ribeye, $688 for 2) is perfectly charred on the outside, and the beef Wellington ($1,988, serves 6-8) is just out of this world.
Not So Jeng: Honestly can’t think of anything…
Great For: We could have La Cantoche any time, any day.
FYI: Feeling hungry? There are group dinner packages available at amazing prices, starting from $328 per head.
