Taste of Tokyo: Tenkei brings contemporary izakaya cool to Central’s nightlife hub.

Look & Feel: Sitting right across from Lan Kwan Fong on On Hing Terrace, the 7,500sqft space features a moody, dimly lit dining room and a private room for parties. There are also two outdoor areas – the Sakura Gardens and the more romantic Bamboo Garden – set on an alfresco terrace.

On the Menu: In keeping with the izakaya theme, a range of easy-to-eat bar bites stand ready to accompany cocktails. Expect contemporary takes of traditional izakaya fare, from the signature Tenkai Gunkan (spicy tuna, scallop, and sea urchin, $128) to chicken soup ramen. There’s also a full dinner menu of starters, soups, mains, and desserts. All the food pairs well with the Japanese Hitachino beer – or the Tenkei house brew. There’s also a lunch menu – it’s seasonal and rotates monthly.

Great For: After work drinks, or the first stop on a night out in LKF.

FYI: Shisha by Aces Co can be enjoyed in the relaxing Sakura Garden.
