Making events cooler: Boom’s a small cafe-slash-bar doubling as a galleria and event space in Poho that welcomes local artists and photographers to showcase their works, and hosts live music from time to time. Things kick off on weekdays from 4pm, beginning with a 4-hour happy hour that sees beers go for as little as $25 and glasses of wine from $30.

Look and feel: The decor is rather minimalistic, sporting bare concrete floors, wooden tables and a leather couch, all complemented by warm lighting and playlist which seems almost integral to the atmosphere (expect acoustic covers of classic and pop songs ranging from 1975’s Chocolate to Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball. Give it try — we promise you won’t regret it.)

On the menu: Think simple bar snacks like wings alongside some carb-heavy options like black truffle pasta and carbonara. The drink menu starts with your standard Italian coffees as well as espresso martinis, Japanese lager and rosé.

Great for: Showing your partner in crime your cultured side, with a peaceful afternoon and an espresso martini in hand. Grab a seat on the studded-leather couch and watch the lights dim after 6pm.

FYI: Event hire starts at $4,000 with an inclusive food and drinks package.
