Botanical Cocktails: Launching in the summer, Apothecary is the latest spot for bar hopping in the city. Botanicals are the of the game, with a cocktail menu focused on aromatic herbs and spices.
Look & Feel: The bar is hidden away up the lift of Carfield Commercial Building. Enter the cool space which takes an emerald color palette, drawing you in from the moment you enter. It definitley has a speakeasy feel and the intimate setting makes it great for small gatherings and pre- and post-dinner drinks.
On the Menu: Unsurprisingly, cocktails are the focus at Apothecary. Each carefully curated concoction is a delight so prepare to enjoy a tipple or two. If you’re feeling something light, try the Wolf Peach Highball, a fruity, zesty drink that’s perfect to kick off the night. Essense of Courage takes agave to new highs with a candied finish, while Fall From Grace blends sweet and sour flavors that leaves a velvet tingle after consumption. For food, there are some bar snacks like the sous vide Spanish octopus and signature meatballs, both for sharing, obviously.
Jeng: The cocktails! Plus, it’s always a treat when a new independent bar opens among Hong Kong’s saturated F&B scene. Apothecary is the collaboration between two veterans – Austen Lendrum, previously of Foxglove and Fung Lik Hang of Boba Bear.
Not So Jeng: Remember that the focus is on the drinks so the food isn’t particularly noteworthy. Although, we’d love to try the cheese board next time which may be a better drinking companion – when we visited, it was unavailable.
Meet the Bartender: Fung Lik Hang (or Joe Wong) knows how to play with flavors and techniques learned from years in the industry.
Great For: Friend hangouts, pre-drinks.
FYI: It’s a small space so come early to guarantee a seat. PS, it’s walk-ins only.
