Many treated local cinema as a sunset industry after its golden era in the ’80s, especially when most audiences seemed to have lost interest in local productions and would rather stay home for the countless streaming platforms online. Who would have thought the industry would thrive again in 2021 with productions that vary from coming-of-age biopic Zero to Hero to dystopian black-and-white film LIMBO, when the whole world has been suffering from a pandemic. Besides renowned filmmakers that frequented the Awards, new actors such as Will Or (Drifting), Chung-hang Leung (Zero to Hero), Louise Wong (Anita) and young blood such as Jun Li (Drifting), Sin-hang Chiu (One Second Champion) and Kin-long Chan (Hand Rolled Cigarette) made it to the Hong Kong Film Awards’ nomination list, some for the very first time.

Where? Star Hall, The Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Centre.

When? July 17, 2022.
