Laid Bare: Self, a solo exhibition by Shen Wei, brings together selected photographic and video works by the New York-based Chinese photographer known for his intimate portraits of himself and others that examines notions of identity, memory and sexuality. Currently one of the most prominent contemporary photo artists from China, Shen will be presenting photographs from his latest series Broken Sleeve, inspired by the myth of an ancient Chinese emperor cutting off his sleeve in order to not disturb his sleeping lover. Also on view are his well-known nude self-portraits, where Shen poses naked in a natural or intimate surrounding.
