Now in its fourth year, Rum Fest is gearing up for a boozy weekend in Wan Chai. The two-day festival is taking place on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28, 2016, with appearances from a handful of bars around town — the same 26 which participated in a citywide Rum Run leading up to the festival.
The whole festival has been pioneered by Honi Honi Tiki Cocktail Lounge’s Max Traverse and UK Rum Fest founder Ian Burrell, which is taking place at rooftop hotspot Mahalo Tiki Lounge in Wan Chai. Rum enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the lineup of rum has expanded to 151 varieties, including old favorites and new finds such as Bumbu spiced rum, Trois Rivières Agricole Rhum from Mauritius, and Magic spiced rum.
Run Fest itself is free to join, but there will also be paid on-site workshops such as the “Rum in the Flair” master class taught by award-winning bartender Nicolas Saint Jean. It finishes off with a cocktail competition, where heavyweights from all 26 bars — think Lily & Bloom, Stockton, The Envoy, Pirata, Quinary, Duddell’s and Fishsteria — will battle it out for a claim to the number one rum cocktail in Hong Kong as judged by a panel of international rum ambassadors.
The festival technically ends at 8pm both nights, but not to worry: that’s when the after-party gets started.
Free to join. 12-8pm, May 27-28, 2016. 29/F, QRE Plaza, 202 Queens Road East, Wan Chai.
