Mask On: The exhibition “Masked Life” is a social photography project by artist Birdy Chu and his students — he teaches at the Department of Media and Communication at the City University of Hong Kong. Chu and his students present photographs documenting eerie moments from the now normal life during a pandemic: a pair of lovers by a strangely empty harbourfront, a dog wearing a mask, and people taking pictures under festive lights with no visible smiles. His students not only participate in the project, but also open up about how the pandemic has affected them personally. Some become closer to their family, while some become financially stricken.
