The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is upon us… and you obviously know what that means. It’s time for the annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival to take over Victoria Harbour. The festival is going down at the Central Harbourfront this year, from June 10-12, 2016.

The 40th anniversary event promises to be full of color, sunshine, live music, international rowers, adrenaline-packed races and, of course, plenty of booze. As usual, the San Miguel BeerFest will be happening at the same time so you can stay hydrated with crisp beers all day.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Fancy Dress Race on June 12, which will showcase lots of costumes and hilarious outfits galore. If that’s not enough for your Instagram, stop to watch (or be sure to avoid) the Dragon Boat Display and Drums Parade, which apparently has been specially designed to enhance selfies.

Fun fact: the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races expects to bring 4,000 athletes from 14 countries to town for the event, which just so happens to be the oldest race in modern dragon boat history. Talk about bragging rights.

Free entry. June 10-12, 2016. Central Harbourfront, Central.
