Trash Talk: Local activist groups have alerted us to the alarming levels of rubbish that have been piling up on the shores of the city’s many beaches — from Stanley to Lantau — in recent days. The source of all the trash is yet to be determined, but in the meantime, Hong Kong Cleanup is calling out to all riled-up Hongkongers to take on the Cleanup Challenge.

How does it work? Get together with friends, family or colleagues to form and register a team, pick a spot (it can be anywhere: a beach, a country park trail, a street in the middle of the city…) and pick a date for the cleanup. The winning teams (presumably the ones who pick up the most trash) will be recognized at an awards ceremony after the competition.

When? September 1 to December 1, 2016. Registration now open.

Where? Anywhere you choose — as long as another team hasn’t chosen it first.

How much? $500 per team.

How do I participate? Register your team here.
