Gingerbread For Good: Social enterprise Cookie Smiles is partnering with fashion boutique JOYCE and twelve celebrity chefs this Christmas to give back to the city’s disadvantaged communities. The twelve celebrity chefs — including Agustin Balbi and pastry chef Joanna Yuen from Ando, Richard Ekkebus and pastry chef Valentin Mille from Amber at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental and Cookie DPT’s Wil Fang — will develop exclusive gingerbread men creations only for the charity Christmas pop-up at JOYCE boutique.
The pop-up, titled “Gingerbread For Good”, will take place at JOYCE from December 6 to 23. You’ll find classic flavors like W Hong Kong’s “W Christmas Touch” made with ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt, and Ando’s “Grumpy Mojo”, a maple syrup gingerbread man, or out-of-the-box creations like Chris Ho’s “Baijiu Five-spice Gingerbread Men”. Wil from Cookie Dpt will roll out a a rich chocolate red velvet cookie dough with traditional gingerbread flavours to create “Red Velvet Ginger Bread”, while The Landmark Mandarin Oriental has created a “XXL Dark Weiss Mahoe 70% Chocolate Glazed Gingerbread Man with Mikan”, mikan being Japanese tangerines.
Sale proceeds from the pop-up will go towards charity partner ImpactHK, which helps people experiencing homelessness in the city develop skills and find homes. Money raised will also be reinvested into Cookie Smiles to further support for Splash Foundation, graduates and employees from Shine Skills Centre, as well as The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association.
