Cheongsam Chic: Also known as “qipao”, cheongsam originated from the traditional Manchu costume which was introduced to China during Qing dynasty, and grew to become an iconic fit for Chinese women. Hong Kong has been heavily influenced by cheongsam. Not only is it the only place in China where cheongsam has been adopted as a school uniform, it’s also appeared in movies such as Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love.
While the cheongsam is no longer an everyday fashion item, it remains a popular fashion inspiration and a versatile design piece. The exhibition showcases contemporary cheongsam designs by nine local designers. There will also be a pop-up store where you can try on and buy cheongsams and cheongsam-related products by the designers!
Participating designers include Blind by JW, Cantosoul, Grace Choi, Polly Ho, Ranee Kok, Janko Lam, Kenny Li, Mountain Yam and Mary Yu.
