Pressing Issues: In the past, printing was not as easy as clicking the “print” button on the computer — printers had to physically lay out metal blocks of characters and line spacing. “Between the Lines – The Legends of Hong Kong Printing” is an exhibition showcasing the lost art of traditional printing techniques. The exhibition goes back to the beginning of the 19th century, when letterpress printing began in modern China. Check out one of the remaining Heidelberg Windmill Platen Press, which was produced in Germany in the 1960s and commonly used in Hong Kong’s letterpress printing workshops in the mid-20th century, as well as the first bilingual dictionary printed in Hong Kong The English and Chinese Dictionary, with the Punti and Mandarin Pronunciation.
