Grind your own: The two young Aussies behind Nutsy Coffee Bar are doing more than just bringing Australian coffee culture to Hong Kong — they’re teaching it. At their hole-in-the-wall coffee shop in Quarry Bay, the former Sydneysider and Perthian close their shop to the general public on Saturdays and open it up for private barista trainings.

Tell me more: Making coffee, you pretty much have to press a few buttons, but before you do that there’s a lot to understand — or so the Aussies tell us, and that’s why in their 3-hour-long class you’ll learn the foundation of coffee and specialty coffee, how grind size and coarse affects taste, how to appreciate coffee and even how to pour your own latte from start to finish (see ours below).

What else?: Special requests are welcomed, but if you’re a complete beginner they’ve got their own routine for you to follow. The classes are offered to two to four people at a time, and are available in both English and Cantonese.

When and where? Every Saturday at Nutsy Coffee Bar, Shop 6B, G/F, Hoi Kwon Shopping Centre, 13-15 Tong Chong Street, Quarry Bay.

How much? $300 per person (minimum two people).

How to reserve a spot? Simply messages the guys on Facebook or drop in and book in store.
