Hong Kong 30 Under 30 2015

Co-founder and COO, BestBev

Hongkonger Shaheen Budhrani learned about sales while working at a startup — a physical commodity trading firm — in London after graduation.

While talking to a potential client, and fellow Hongkonger, the conversation turned to the beer market in Hong Kong. “One month later, that potential client and his friend had become my business partners,” says Budhrani.

BestBev was born in 2014, and Budhrani hasn’t looked back since. Importing top-notch beers and ciders from overseas, Bestbev distributes them to restaurants and bars across Hong Kong.

Budhrani says the company prides itself on having an approachable selection for first-time craft beer drinkers, as well as more esoteric labels. BestBev has been an instrumental force in cultivating the growing craft beer scene in Hong Kong through regular events and collaborations.

“It’s definitely been an exciting time for craft beer in Hong Kong,” Budhrani says. “There is still a way to go, but we’re happy to be at the forefront.”

His very first job? In high school, Budhrani was a silent auctioneer, convincing people to place silent bids on sports and music memorabilia at charity galas and dinners.
