Co-founder, The9thMuse
Jing Zhang founded accessories boutique The9thMuse with Charlotte Hwang in 2012 after the two met at boarding school in California.
Offering jewelry, accessories and home goods from both homegrown and overseas independent designers, the store was a hit with Hong Kong’s fashionistas, who tired of run-of-the-mill pieces from chain shops.
International chains aside, Zhang thinks Hong Kong has a great creative environment — as long as you know where to look. “It is very collaborative and unique in its sensibilities,” she adds.
Running your own business in the creative scene doesn’t come easy, though: “As a business owner with creative aspirations, the hardest part is knowing how best to edit your creative choices.”
Her very first job? Zhang was a front desk receptionist at the Jurys Inn Chelsea in London.
