Marketing lead, Google Hong Kong
Oscar Wong says his most memorable experiences at tech giant Google have “always involved using creative storytelling to educate and inspire Hong Kong people to make the most out of the internet”.
As marketing lead at Google Hong Kong, Wong organized the largest YouTube FanFest in Hong Kong, drawing in over 2,000 people. His team also launched Google Jobs Search in Chinese and English, and introduced Digital Garage in Cantonese — which trains students and small business owners on the latest digital marketing skills.
These exciting launches are all at the heart of what Wong does: showcasing Google products to Hong Kong consumers, while helping to grow local businesses with digital marketing tools.
The Los Angeles native moved to Hong Kong in 2017 after working with Google in Silicon Valley. “My parents lived in Hong Kong as young adults before settling in the US so I have always had a strong desire to experience Hong Kong and relive their fond memories here.”
Outside of work, Wong serves as a co-chair of the American Chamber Young Professionals Committee. “In one of the most transient cities in the world, I am passionate about bringing young professionals together in a sociable and supportive community to support one another’s professional development,” he says.
His first job? Mentoring low-income students in creating their first business plans, and presenting to Fortune 500 leaders and venture capitalists, at a nonprofit organization.
What inspires him? “Doers who create things they are passionate about.”
