Marketing and communications manager, Native Union

Bo Chan says she likes seeing “a full picture” of how a business works, and seeing how different parts come together to form a successful business. “That’s why I’ve held many different roles at each company I’ve worked at.”

A marketing and communications manager at Native Union, Chan is one of the youngest managers at the company and oversees a marketing team with seven people.

She began her time there as a product manager, helping to manage the development process. “However, I quickly rediscovered my passion for marketing and telling incredible brand stories and moved into a product marketing role.”

Born in Hong Kong, Chan grew up in Vancouver and attended the University of Southern California. After working in Los Angeles and Vancouver for two years, she moved to Hong Kong over a year ago in search for something new to help her “grow on a more personal level,” while also reconnecting with her roots.

Aside from her full-time job, Chan also volunteers extensively. She is a volunteer leader at HandsOn Hong Kong, which runs programs to help those in need, and is also involved with the Lizzie Bee Foundation, which promotes education and empowers communities. Meanwhile, she works part-time as a STEM instructor at First Code Academy, an educational institute that provides tailored coding programs for those between 14 and 18 years old.

Her first job? A summer internship with nonprofit Minerva BC, which empowers female leadership.

Her role models? “My mentors, all of whom are amazing female leaders that have been kind enough to guide me.”
